Does Art Imitate Life?

Revive
Some of you knew me when my creativity was expressed through the medium of photography. Then it was all about capturing the moment, be it a wedding, a family portrait, or journaling a travel experience, it was working with something that already existed. The end product, for the most part, was already created for me, I just had to pay attention, maybe anticipate a possibility and then click the shutter at the right moment.
With my painting I start with little or no target in mind, very little to no pre-visualization or direction to be guided by. It is often at the very end and I stand back to explore it and (to come up with a title) that I start to understand what I have created and where its energy may have come from.
Other artists express themselves through their chosen craft. Be it by the use of the written page, song lyrics, or choreographed dance, it is through these mediums that experiences, both real and imagined, both past and present are revealed.
So what story does this months painting "Revive" have to tell? This last year presented me with a few medical related changes and challenges, the pinnacle of which was a recent partial knee replacement. The painting was finished two days before the surgery.
If any of this had an influence on this painting is was subconscious energies at work that have been building from this past years experiences. As I was analyzing the painting I started to get flashes of an almost abstracted view of sections from an anatomical chart, revealing the complexities of our physical makeup and what lies just below the surface.
I usually prefer to not express what my interpretation of a painting is, until the viewer has had a chance to make a connection for themselves, however this one just seemed too personal.
Does art imitate life? What are your thoughts, is it all connected?
Thank you for following my creative journey..........Jim
